hinds feet

image imagination project

Poster MockUp Vert and Horiz.jpg

In this project, I explored image making based on a selection of text from the book Hinds Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard and created iterations focusing on varying subjects and mediums. I took this project further and developed a speculative scenario in which these images could be used as an emotional currency.

The Images : Round 1

The first round of images that I created in this project were completely based on image exploration. I read the excerpt of text and made imagery related to the words on the page. This step was all about exploring analog methods, so each image is either 100% or partially handmade, mostly exploring paint and cut paper.

The Images : Round 2

Round 2 consisted of more open ended exploration. One challenge here was to create 5 images using unique mediums. For this, I used dish soap, lipstick, chocolate sauce, blueberries, and herbs from my kitchen. Beyond those, I began to explore digital image creation and manipulation as well.

The Images : Round 3

Round 3 was a mini round. In this round I continued to explore mixed media, and digital manipulation or textures.

The Images : Round 4

Round 4 consisted of diving deeper into the themes behind images that I had been creating. This included technical and conceptual themes such as parental love, self reflection, identity discovery, renewal, and textural quality.

The Images : Round 5

In my final round of images, I began to combine themes explored in round 4. This meant merging things like textural quality and identity exploration, or parenting and renewal.

Connection Currency : Beyond the Images

In the United States of 2100, society has become overrun by technology. Humans have been blinded by the benefits of automation, and in turn have become deprived of genuine human connection. In order to renew society and provide a solution to this problem, the government has implemented a new currency system that requires people to experience and seek real human love and connection for survival. This currency is worn in the form of a wristband and tracks love based interaction with other humans. There are several connection categories measured by the device, and when you give or receive love in one of those categories, the number for that category will increase. These categories include physical love, serving, giving, quality time, spoken affirmation, and emotional connection. People can then use their “connection points” in exchange for foundational needs such as food, rent, or services, or for luxury items. These points can be spent using one connection category or they can be spent in combination for luxury items. If lacking in points, the watch has a challenge feature to prompt users to participate in new connection opportunities. To view connection points, one can use their wristband to project their stats via a hologram. This will show a graph displaying point values of each connection category. To share points with another human or exchange them for goods and services, human connection is required. One can access the trading function on their wristband and shake hands with another human wearing a band. During the physical connection, points can be transferred between devices. Connection currency will help humankind to once again intentionally engage in acts of love and connection with the people around them.
